I really want @OpenAI Dots to be good and gave it another try yesterday after the updates that @thsottiaux shared, but it’s really not there yet.
Aside from the bugs, the amount of explicitly approved tool calls the harness blocks for my own "safety" is horribly cumbersome.
I want an assistant I can delegate to and instead, I spent last night babysitting mine through:
- Stalled Codex workers spawned by the Dot that neither it nor I could fix, plus one that twice reverted to an old task (it kept ignoring its entire transcript and responding only to the first message my Dot sent it)展开全文
- Permission requests that literally don’t work (clicking “Always allow” makes the permission prompt reappear 3 seconds later, infinitely, and never registers the permission grant)
- A standing-approval rule it wrote on my request to allow autonomous work, asked me to confirm, then it wasn’t allowed to save due to OpenAI classifier restrictions
- Webpage login “blockers” where I could literally see an autofilled password or an OAuth “Continue to login” button that the agents somehow didn’t think would let them login
- A Stripe webpage that the agent said was entirely blank based on an element id/name and gave up on instead of looking at visually (spoiler: it wasn’t blank)
Then I asked it to submit a bug report. It was blocked from doing so within the Codex app “for safety reasons,” so I had to submit that myself too.
I can’t leave it unattended for 5 minutes, and even when I’m there granting permission, that doesn’t reliably unblock it. It’s taking way too much supervising for a personal assistant, and my Grok and Muse bots don’t have these issues.
